Men's Ministry ("Joshua’s Men")

“...But as for me and my house we will serve the LORD.”  (Joshua 24:15)

We are Joshua’s Men…

We derive our name from Joshua, son of Nun, of the Old Testament. Joshua was the right hand man to Moses and learned much from one of the most famous men of the bible. Therefore it stands to reason that Joshua is a man to emulate in our walk with God. Joshua’s most famous words are captured in Joshua 24:15. The last sentence of the verse has become the mantra for many Christian men’s groups “As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” Joshua’s Men at East Hills Community Church, is happy to join that community as we too apply this verse to our lives. However, it is important that we understand the entire context of how these words came about. The complete verse says:

But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether [it be] the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” (NIV)

Joshua’s encouragement was also a challenge to the men and families of Israel. He had just reminded them of how much God had done in their lives, calling all of His faithfulness to their attention. Then he asked them - in light of God’s faithfulness - who will you serve today?

Joshua’s Men Men’s Ministry reflects that same attitude. We teach God’s Word – all of it – and challenge the men to determine who they will serve; God and their families, or themselves. We provide the means by which they can be successful in their pursuit of God, and encouragement to continue when times get tough. We offer not only intellectual and spiritual food, but relationship building opportunities and activities. We encourage the older men to mentor our young men, tomorrow’s leaders, husbands and fathers to follow hard after our Lord, Jesus Christ. We do this through study, worship, prayer, fellowship, accountability and mentoring. And last of all we’ll have a great time and loads of fun together as only God’s children can!
