Getting to know Pastor Greg...

Full Name:  Gregory Thomas Walker     Ministry Position:  Pastor of Men’s Ministry & Outreach

Birthdate:  September 28

Family:  Wife Teresa and two adult daughters, Jessica and Brittany.

Education:  AS degree from the Community College of the Air Force, completed RCA Commissioned Pastor Course in 2005, and I earned my PHD* at the School of Hard Knocks (*post hole digger)

Spiritual Gifts:  Pastor/Shepherd, Intercessor, Encouragement, Craftsmanship, Teacher

My Personality Type (DiSC Test):  I have no idea

What I love about East Hills is:  The people here are like my family… some seem even closer than family!  Our pastor is committed to seeking and reaching the lost, any way we can!   God has called me here and given me a ministry with the men here, which I really love doing!

I would describe my job as:  The BEST job ever!!  By the grace of God, I now get paid to do what I volunteered to do for the past 15 years.

Favorite recording artists:  Johnny Cash, Sammy Kershaw, Jimmy Buffett, Jack Johnson, Talking Heads, The Fixx, INXS, The Cars, The Police, Rush, Steve Miller Band, Styx, Fleetwood Mac, Frank Sinatra, and B.B. King.  I really like music!

How I spend my days off:  I like to spend my time off with my family and I especially enjoy camping, backpacking, running cross country, mud runs, and surfing…. Basically anything outdoors!

One meal I can’t resist:  My wife’s world famous pot-roast and potatoes!!

Besides the Bible, three books that have influenced me:  Crazy Love (by Francis Chan), The Reason For God (by Tim Keller), The Master Plan of Evangelism by (Robert Coleman).

Most influential book of the Bible to me:  Usually whatever book I’m reading at the moment, because the Holy Spirit brings it to life for me.  But I could also say the Gospel of John, because that is the book I read and studied before I got saved (see “How I became a Christian”).

Best example of love that I’ve seen:  #1, my wife ministering to her elderly parents.   #2, my friend Greg Niskian’s love for his two adopted kids, Frank and Katie.

I’d give anything to meet:  JESUS!!!  I’m ready!!... any time Lord!!   Also, John Muir.

My most irrational act:  Buying a kitten for Teresa when we were just engaged, not married yet.  Regretted that for the next 16 years! (the cat, not the marriage!)

Nobody knows I:  If I’ve kept it a secret this long, I’m not going to tell you all NOW!!

Favorite movies:  Faith Like Potatoes, Second Hand Lions, Bella, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (remake with Ben Stiller), Mr. Deeds (the original and the remake), The Apostle, Joe vs. the Volcano, Rocky I-V, and The Expendables I-III.

How I became a Christian:  God created a longing for Him in my heart through the quiet witness of a few Godly men,  Then he allowed me to witness one incredible miracle.  After that, He blessed me with a couple faithful friends who walked with me through the Gospel of John and answered every question I had until I was finally ready to surrender my life to Him.  I was 27 years old.

I can’t wait to ask Jesus face to face:  Why me, Lord?

How I met my spouse:  We were good friends in High School and stayed in touch with each other after graduating.  My feelings for her grew stronger, but she was engaged to another young man… so I had no choice but to woo her away from him!  We’ve been married over 27 years now and he went on to marry another girl and have a nice family, so it all worked out!

If I had to live in another country, I’d choose:  Australia

My “life verse” is:  “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward.  You are serving the Lord Christ.”  (Colossians 3:23,24)

I’d appreciate prayer for:  My family, then my ministry with the men.
